It takes a lot to shut down the Met Gala red carpet. Considered by the vast majority of fashionistas to be the biggest style night of the year, everyone brings their best. Of course, everyone’s “best” looks different, and we think it’s fair to say some celebrities are at the top of the class. Among those stellar students is Cardi B. Whether it’s a gray bouffant to honor Karl Lagerfeld or blown-out waves for the unveiling of “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & the Catholic Imagination,” she always aces the Met Gala.

And this year, the Bronx-born rapper aimed for valedictorian, walking the red carpet in a dramatically proportioned black tulle gown. Upon her arrival at the foot of the iconic stairs, a team of several men unfurled the bottom of the dress to reveal a massive train—and we do mean massive. She didn’t just go big with the dress, though. For jewelry, she opted for an emerald and diamond necklace, jewelry, and bracelet set that would make Elizabeth Taylor blush.

The equally dramatic beauty was defined by an oversized headpiece. From afar, the wrapped headdress almost looked like a beehive—a sort of Black-tie Marge Simpson moment. Below the breathtaking hairdo, the “WAP” rapper’s makeup consisted of a sleek cat eye with green accents, bubblegum pink blush, and gleaming highlighter. Of course, no Cardi B look would be complete without nails—in this case, a long French mani with geometric green tips.
