Selena Gomez Just Tried This Spring’s Most Expensive-Looking Manicure

The whole world is pretty obsessed with a good french manicure at the moment, and Selena Gomez is particularly invested in the style’s particular je ne sais quoi. In February, she released the music video for her newest single, “Love On,” which was basically an ode to French girl beauty—and even featured her regular manicurist, Tom Bachik, in a starring role.

While Gomez chose a classic square-tipped french design for the video, she’s toned things down a bit in the months since. On May 1, the 31-year-old showed off yet another French manicure, this time more of the “naked” French variety, while attending Rare Beauty’s 3rd Annual Mental Health Summit in New York City. (Another difference: this look was crafted by nail artist Mo Qin.)

Short and rounded in a way that echoes the singer’s natural nail shape, the manicure is simple enough that some might mistake it for no manicure at all—but we see that tip!! As London-based nail artist Georgia Rae previously told Byrdie, “The Naked French is a more subtle interpretation of the classic French. It still gives that natural look, but it blurs any discoloration for a more refined appearance.” You can also spot the micro-trend by its shape—you’ll often see natural, round nails just like Gomez’s.

To complete the look, the beauty mogul wore a crinkly cream Matičevski cocktail dress and jewelry by Tabayer. Her dark locks were pulled into a retro slicked-back ponytail (another look borrowed from the music video, minus the big ol’ bow she wore) by Orlando Pita, and her makeup was dewy as ever with a nice rose lip courtesy of Rare Beauty’s Kind Words Lip Liner ($15) and Lipstick ($20). A brush of Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush in the cool pink shade “Happy” by makeup artist Hung Vanngo finished things off.

At the event, the All The Murders in the Building actress spoke with the U.S. surgeon general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, about how to combat the country’s loneliness epidemic. I’m no expert, obviously, but I do have one nice suggestion: invite someone to get a manicure with you! Might we suggest matching naked French designs?
